Pauly’s been working with Tigheland pretty much since the beginning and has been one of Roy Tighe’s closest friends for over 10 years and that’s ultimately how he landed one of the leads in “The Backshop Show” as the character “Pauly”. When Roy originally came up with the concept for “The Backshop Show” it was originally titled “The Backshop” and Roy first produced it as a short film and the character “Pauly” was actually named “Dwayne” and was played by another actor. After the short was released Pauly mentioned to Roy at a drunken debauchery of a house party in North Vancouver that he would like to act in something that he’s producing. When Roy decided to put together “The Backshop” as series the actor originally supposed to play the role of “Dwayne” dropped out due to creative differences of what the character would be. Then Roy’s producing partners also dropped out last minute. So Roy decided to then produce the show with his childhood friend Daniel Robison and they revamped the show to what it is now, “The Backshop Show“. While Roy was in need for a lead actor to play “Dwayne” he remembered Pauly’s interest in wanting to act. Even though Pauly was not an actor Roy knew that he could count on and trust Pauly to do the role and not bale out on him. Roy explained the character “Dwayne” to Pauly and said “it’s pretty much us in real life”. Pauly was excited and agreed to play the role of himself “Pauly McDonald” in “The Backshop Show“. Roy and Pauly’s relationship in real life is very similar to the one represented in “The Backshop Show“. Pauly has starred in 9 episodes of “The Backshop Show” and 3 other skits. “Gangland-Enter Team Jet Pack” which finished in the top 5 out of 100′s of submissions at the Whistler 72hr Film Festival, “Acrcade AKA Gay Raper” and “The Behind The Scenes Of The Backshop Show“. The Backshop Show ended in 2010 due to a series of unfortunate events. Pauly got diagnosed with a brain tumor, the pro shop location they used went bankrupt and Roy decided it was time to move to LA to pursue selling The Backshop Show as a TV series and also pursue other comedy endeavors. In 2011 Pauly made a full recovery and still remains close to everyone at Tigheland. Even though Pauly is not pursuing acting as his career he is very happy living in North Vancouver Canada working as a foreman for the Chevron Oil refinery. Pauly is still is a huge asset at Tigheland and a great friend to Roy and I’m sure you’ll see him again soon.
