Below is an article Dead Central.com did on Roy Tighe, founder of Tigheland Productions for his latest video. Enjoy!

A couple of weeks ago we interviewed Chillerama‘s Anton Troy and promised to release his anticipated mockumentary, which will surely extend the fun of the Chillerama experience. The moment is now – Dread Central is ready to exclusively premiere the project Anton’s been working on for the last two months with co-creator and friend Roy Tighe.

Horror is familiar ground for newcomer Anton Troy, who also starred in this year’s slasher Filth to Ashes, Flesh to Dust, but the Las Vegas-raised James Dean-esque actor is ready to sink his fangs into some more comedy with Anton Troy, the Man Behind the Beast directed by Roy Tighe, who was dragged by Anton to all the promotional events collecting footage. Together they created a piece that’s based on the idea that one day Troy may turn into Hollywood’s next best thing – all thanks to his tagline “Tastes like chicken, huh, babe?” from Tim Sullivan’s “I Was A Teenage Werebear” segment of Chillerama. We don’t want to give too much away, but there’s a lot to look out for like guest appearances by the likes of horror veterans Kane Hodder, Ray Wise and Lin Shaye; directors Tim Sullivan, Joe Lynch, Adam Green and Adam Rifkin; and Anton’s Chillerama co-star Sean Paul Lockhart, plus more.

According to Troy, “I wanted to expand the fans’ experience of Chillerama; this is our gift to them.”

Watch the exclusive premiere of the mock-doc below our interview with Roy Tighe.

DC: Tell us a little bit about yourself, Roy. How did you start making viral videos and mockumentaries?

Roy Tighe: I’m from a small remote town of 6,000 people in northern Canada called Fort Frances, Ontario. I just couldn’t picture myself married by 20, kids by 25, alcoholic by 30, divorced by 40 and on the verge of suicide by 50 so I left! [Laughs] I attended the Film and Television program at Capilano College in Vancouver, and I eventually started writing and producing my own projects so that I would have my own platform where I could act and create. When Anton and I met to talk about doing this project together, I already had a vision for what I thought we should do. Anton said we need a concept, it can’t just be about him being famous, and I asked what one-liners he said in the movie. He said a few of them, one of which was “Tastes like chicken, huh, babe?” and I was like that’s it! I simply think mockumentaries are funny. The actors have to play a character that is actually a real person like in a documentary. So for me, I find characters funnier in mockumentaries than in traditional comedies because they have more freedom to experience the world that has been created. Everything is being perceived as in the moment, and there are no limits to what the story or character can say or do or what can happen – just like in real life.

DC: What makes a good viral video?

RT: Uh, two girls and one cup… just kidding… I don’t know. I just try to be honest with my work, myself and the fellow people I work with. I try not to worry about what makes things good or not. I just do what I believe is funny and grow from it, good or bad. I stay open-minded throughout the process.

DC: What was your experience like working with Anton on this mockumentary? Was it fun? Was it tiring?

RT: Anton and I worked very well together, and I had a great time working with him on this project. I got to meet the directors of Chillerama and work with other very talented artists like Anton, and that’s something I really enjoy. Of course it was tiring at times. Neither of us were happy with the first cut I put together, and I felt like I let us down. Then we were forced to step away for a week because I had to head back to Vancouver for another shoot, leaving both of us feeling the pressure of time to have the video done on schedule. We were both feeling very stressed and overworked due to multiple projects that I’m currently working on and with Anton so busy promoting Chillerama. But at the end of the day, that week away from our project gave us a nice break to get re-motivated and create something that we’re happy with. We believe we have something the fans will really enjoy. The nice thing about working with Anton is the respect and friendship that we’ve built through this project. I have a great passion for creativity, and it’s refreshing to work with a guy like Anton who shares this passion. He’s the type of guy who is there for his friends and deeply wants the projects he works on to be the best they can. Also, being a young filmmaker witnessing what the directors of Chillerama have done justified for me that hard work and determination pay off when you keep at it. So all and all I definitely had an awesome experience and will hopefully get the chance to work with everyone again in the future.

DC: Should we expect more Anton/Roy collaborations in the future? Do you plan to release unused material from this mockumentary at any point?

RT: Yeah! You should definitely expect more from Anton and me. I think we made a great team on this project, and I personally think he’s a very talented actor. Yes, we talked about releasing unused material as we have so much amazing footage that we couldn’t use because of time restraints, but I guess you’ll have to stay tuned to find out. You can follow Anton and me on Twitter and Facebook or on our websites here and here. Check ‘em out to keep up with all our news and future projects.

Roy Tighe is an independent producer born in Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada who loves all aspect of the entertainment business. His skills include acting, producing, directing, writing and editing Roy moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 2001 to take the Film and Television program at Capilano College. Shortly after college Roy started doing stand up comedy at Yuk Yuks Comedy Club in Vancouver, Calgary, and in various other comedy clubs in the surrounding areas. In 2008 Roy founded Tigheland Productions. The first project Roy and Tigheland produced was “The Backshop”. “The Backshop” was originally a short film directed by Graeme Morgan and co-produced, edited by Daniel Robinson who are Roy’s childhood friends from Fort Frances. Roy wrote, produced, acted and co-edited the short then the following year Roy and Dan revamped “The Backshop” and produced it into what you see today as the webseries titled “The Backshop Show”. In 2010 Roy stopped production on “The Backshop Show” during filming of season 2 due to unforeseen events. Lead actor Paul McDonald was diagnosed with a brain tumor forcing him to leave the show and due to the economy crashing the pro-shop they shot out of went bankrupt and had to close down. Even though it pained Roy to shut the show down he did; “The Backshop Show means to much to me to just do a hack job and replace a lead actor halfway through a second season of a show? Is that what I’m supposed to do? No. That’s gay.” During the time of “The Backshop Show” days Roy and the Tigheland crew would still shoot other sketches and develop new ideas. After Roy made the decision to cancel “The Backshop Show” as a webseries Roy took it as a sign that maybe it was time to move on and pursue other projects and expand the Tigheland creative endeavors. Since then Paul has made a full recovery and Tigheland and Roy have their first feature length documentary in post production which Roy directed, titled “Never Be Done: The Richard Lett Story”. They are also currently looking for funding for 2 features that they’ve developed “Lake Cop 2 and The Assemblers Movie“. Tigheland and Roy have also experimented with other creative ideas producing dozens of viral shorts and helped other talented actors, producers, creators with there productions as well. Roy currently lives in Los Angeles, California pursuing “The Backshop Show” as a TV series, working as an actor and running Tigheland Productions.
Jon Shefsky is a home grown Californian and is an all around art creator. He does stand up comedy, writes comedy, makes films(like the one above this paragraph), and still finds the time to paint dog portraits and make a few tattoos on people. If he was a philanthropist or in the peace core, the world would be saved! But he is a selfish artist, so he can only contribute moderately. He loves sushi and pretty much any kind of Whisky/Whiskey. Jon and Roy Tighe met when Roy first moved to LA in 2010 when Roy was randomly watching a stand up show in North Hollywod. Jon’s sense of humor immediately stood out for Roy, they caught up after the show and quickly hit it off. When they finally got together and did a couple skits for Tigheland in 2011, their humor combined like fine blended Scotch and now Roy and Jon have several projects in the works. The first two skits they did for Tigheland were “Stimulated” and “Two Good To Be True” along with Brittany Furlan. Jon, Roy and Tigheland have more skits to come so stayed tuned!
Brittany is an extremely talented actor, stand up comic, model and all around artist. Roy Tighe and Brittany first met on the shoot of the TV series “Prank My Mom”. Roy ran camera for the pilot episode and was in shock of how great her improv skills were. It was a must that Roy and the Tigheland crew had to work with her. Occasionally Brittany and Roy would catch up at a stand up spot in North Hollywood where Brittany performed stand up and the two of them would throw around ideas. Recently Roy, Jon Shefsky and Brittany collaborated on 2 skits for Tigheland, “Two Good To Be True” and “Stimulated“. Brittany’s background in performance comes from improv, stand up comedy and modelling. She was a star in the reality show “Reality Hell” she’s made appearances in the HBO show Entourage, did a part in LA Paranormal and now is starring in the reality show “Prank My Mom” which is being aired on the Life Time Network. We here at Tigheland are proud to have Brittany a part of the Tigheland team and happy to be working with such a great talent. Below are links to her other works and be sure to catch her in an episode of “Prank My Mom”.
Adam started working with Tigheland in the summer of 2009 as a writer/comedy consultant on the web series “The Backshop Show“. He wrote 2 episodes that did not make it to production due to unforeseen production events. “The Backshop Show” was stopped halfway through production of season 2. The actor who played the lead role of “Pauly” was diagnosed with a brain tumor and other unfortunate production events caused the team to decide it’s time to move on from “The Backshop Show” as a web series. While “The Backshop Show” was in production Adam also contributed to the project as a producer and sometimes ran sound, camera and did other various jobs to help advance the project. Adam is currently writing his first screen play “Fleabiscuit”. In the up and coming months Adam will be working with Roy Tighe and Graeme Morgan on the next 2 “Where’s Barry?” episodes. He wrote one of the 2 new episodes that will be released later this year and was a consulting writer on the other. He’ll also be making his first acting debut in a Tigheland sketch in both these new episodes of “Where’s Barry?“. Adam’s sense of humor fits in very well with the rest of the team at Tigheland and currently still works closely with Roy and Graeme on various other projects.
Pauly’s been working with Tigheland pretty much since the beginning and has been one of Roy Tighe’s closest friends for over 10 years and that’s ultimately how he landed one of the leads in “The Backshop Show” as the character “Pauly”. When Roy originally came up with the concept for “The Backshop Show” it was originally titled “The Backshop” and Roy first produced it as a short film and the character “Pauly” was actually named “Dwayne” and was played by another actor. After the short was released Pauly mentioned to Roy at a drunken debauchery of a house party in North Vancouver that he would like to act in something that he’s producing. When Roy decided to put together “The Backshop” as series the actor originally supposed to play the role of “Dwayne” dropped out due to creative differences of what the character would be. Then Roy’s producing partners also dropped out last minute. So Roy decided to then produce the show with his childhood friend Daniel Robison and they revamped the show to what it is now, “The Backshop Show“. While Roy was in need for a lead actor to play “Dwayne” he remembered Pauly’s interest in wanting to act. Even though Pauly was not an actor Roy knew that he could count on and trust Pauly to do the role and not bale out on him. Roy explained the character “Dwayne” to Pauly and said “it’s pretty much us in real life”. Pauly was excited and agreed to play the role of himself “Pauly McDonald” in “The Backshop Show“. Roy and Pauly’s relationship in real life is very similar to the one represented in “The Backshop Show“. Pauly has starred in 9 episodes of “The Backshop Show” and 3 other skits. “Gangland-Enter Team Jet Pack” which finished in the top 5 out of 100′s of submissions at the Whistler 72hr Film Festival, “Acrcade AKA Gay Raper” and “The Behind The Scenes Of The Backshop Show“. The Backshop Show ended in 2010 due to a series of unfortunate events. Pauly got diagnosed with a brain tumor, the pro shop location they used went bankrupt and Roy decided it was time to move to LA to pursue selling The Backshop Show as a TV series and also pursue other comedy endeavors. In 2011 Pauly made a full recovery and still remains close to everyone at Tigheland. Even though Pauly is not pursuing acting as his career he is very happy living in North Vancouver Canada working as a foreman for the Chevron Oil refinery. Pauly is still is a huge asset at Tigheland and a great friend to Roy and I’m sure you’ll see him again soon.
